Covid-19 Vaccine 

Vaccinating

No doubt you will have seen reports in the media regarding the impending rollout of the covid-19 vaccine.

We are still awaiting details on when the vaccines will be delivered to us, but once we do we will contact all eligible patients via letter, text or phone to ask you to attend for a vaccination.

 

The information we have at present is;

  • We have been told that we will get 7-10 days notice of when our first deliver of vaccines will be. We have not received this information yet.

  • When it is delivered, the vaccine will only be delivered to 1 site within our network*. Once delivered there it cannot be moved on to other practices, so patients of all of our network practices will be required to travel to that site in order to receive the vaccination

  • The Pfizer vaccine, which is the only one to be approved at the time of writing, has to be stored at -70C and as practices do not have ultra-low freezers, once we receive delivery we have to store it in our conventional pharmacy refrigerators which operate between 2-8C. Because of this, the batch of 975 doses of vaccine have to be used within 3.5 days, so we have to ensure that everything is planned to perfection to minimise wastage.

  •  Patients will require 2 doses at least 21 days apart. You will be given a time & date for your 2nd dose when you attend your first appointment.

  • The following groups will be prioritized in order. Please be aware that we are only able to invite and vaccinate groups 3 and onward once we have been given permission to do so by NHS England.

  • We realise that this may mean that some couples may each have to attend twice, but we are under strict direction that we cannot make any exceptions.

  1. Residents in a care home for older adults and their carers;

  2. All those 80 years of age and over and frontline health and social care workers

  3. All those 75 years of age and over;

  4. All those 70 years of age and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals;

  5. All those 65 years of age and over;

  6. All individuals aged 16 years to 64 years with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality;

  7. All those 60 years of age and over;

  8. All those 55 years of age and over; and

  9. All those 50 years of age and over.

*Our Primary Care Network consists of: North Preston Medical Practice (Broadway & Ingol), Briarwood Medical, Dr Yerra, Dr Ali, Park View, Park Medical (2 sites), Penwortham St. Mary's, Lane Ends and New Hall Lane Practice.
